Hello All,
We need to start putting some “shape” around our group's performance at this year's Shoalhaven River Festival “Culture Club”.
I have not heard from the Colombian and Argentine groups about their participation. Lyn contacted a few Colombians she knows, and they indicated they would participate, but I have not heard from them since. I contacted the Argentinians and they have a few of the dancers, and might have a tough time performing.
With that in mind, I think perhaps we could do 3 dances with the group:
Jerusalema – we could teach the steps to the crowd, tell them about the dance, it's origins, dance videos around the world during covid lockdown, etc; then dance it with the crowd — I think that'd be fantastic !!!
Bicicleta – we could present it as exercise (cannot call it zumba as we don't have a license for that) and it is Colombian … Perhaps Colombians could join us. We could also intro the song with some info, and even offer for the crowd to join us, with a few members from the group performing within the crowd
Chacarera – we could ask the Argentinian to join us, perform the dance we could all join them. They could be dressed up in traditional clothing, and the group in normal clothing but all dancing the dance together. Great show of integration!
Feedback please? suggestions? What do you all think?
[ Marisabel/Carmen/Teresa: Patricia will join; Michael and I will do too – we could be 6 in costume; one of the ladys could to play “boy” on the dance ]
We could dress up for the Jerusalema with some bright African colours; keep the dress for the other songs too.
Perhaps we could end the performance with a song … in choir form with the whole group … no pressure on the SINGING part of the group, but it'd be wonderful to do that !!!
Please let me know what you think.
Raul
